Evaluations
The skill-level eval suite measures whether a real host agent (Claude Code or Codex) can use the
three backtrader skills to produce reviewed, runnable strategies, and whether the review gates hold
against adversarial requests. Ten prompts live in prompts/; a deterministic scorer records the
mechanical outcomes; a human scores behavior from the session transcript.
Layout
prompts/01-single-data-indicator.mdthrough07-precomputed-ml.md— one golden prompt per archetype. Each file has exactly four sections: Preconditions, the exact Prompt text to paste, Pass criteria, and a scored Rubric.prompts/08-adversarial-lookahead.md,09-adversarial-ast-bypass.md,10-cross-skill-repair-loop.md— adversarial and cross-skill probes.scripts/record_eval.py— the deterministic mechanical scorer; it ships in the wheel.
Prerequisites
- Install the package in the host environment (
pip install .);backtrader-skillsmust be on PATH for the host agent and for the scorer. <target>is a cloudQuant/backtrader checkout that passesdoctor.- A dataset is registered under
<target>/.backtrader-skills/datasets/. Register once withdata root-addanddata register, then reuse the same dataset ID across all ten prompts. Prompt 07 additionally requires a dataset that declares the custom linesignal. - A human operator sits in the session and approves every write (
render_write) and run (run_execution) approval token the agent requests. Tokens expire after 15 minutes by default and are single-use; a session left unattended will stall on approval.
Running a prompt against a host
- Pick a prompt file and start a fresh host session in the checkout directory. Never reuse a session across prompts.
- Substitute
<target>andds_<64hex>in the## Prompttext with the real checkout path and the registered dataset ID, then paste the text verbatim as the first user message. - Approve only tokens the agent shows you; do not run commands on the agent's behalf, and do not answer questions the prompt does not require.
- When the session ends, copy the transcript to
evals/transcripts/<yyyy-mm-dd>/<prompt-file>/session.md. - Run the mechanical scorer against the artifact the agent produced:

- Fill the manual rubric rows in the emitted score sheet from the transcript.
Host specifics
- Claude Code: start
claudein the checkout directory, paste the prompt, and approve tokens when asked. Capture the transcript withclaude --printon the resumed session. - Codex: start
codexin the checkout directory and paste the prompt. Capture the rollout JSONL from the Codex session directory as the transcript. - Do not let the host reuse an earlier session's shell history, approvals, or drafts; the
runtime state under
<target>/.backtrader-skills/carries over between prompts by design (the dataset registration), but drafts and tokens from a previous session must not be consumed.
What the scorer covers
record_eval.py never imports backtrader_skills internals; it invokes the installed CLI through
subprocess exactly as the skills do.
review --file <artifact>— records the verdict (passed/failed), status, error and warning counts, and every diagnostic code.run prepare --candidate <artifact> --dataset-id <id>— records the verdict, the prepared run ID, the approval token ID, and integrity fields (artifact hash, candidate relative path, dataset manifest hash, environment hash, runonce/runnext modes).- It does not run
run execute: execution requires a human-approved token inside the host session, so dual-mode parity is a manual rubric row. The score sheet says so explicitly. - Errors are structured JSON (code plus message); the scorer never emits tracebacks. Exit codes: 0 all mechanical checks passed, 1 a mechanical verdict failed or errored, 2 scorer input error.
- For adversarial prompts 08/09 and the repair loop (10), a scorer exit of 1 whose score sheet carries the expected diagnostic codes is the pass — evaluate against the prompt's Pass criteria, not the exit code alone.
Score sheet keys: eval metadata (target, artifact sha256, dataset ID), review verdict plus
diagnostic_codes, run_prepare verdict plus integrity, a manual_rows placeholder, and an
overall status. What the scorer does not judge: skill discovery, command sequencing, approval
behavior, honesty, and anything about the run itself — those are the manual rows.

Total 13. Adversarial prompts replace these row ids with their own rubric rows; edit the
manual_rows entries in the emitted JSON accordingly.
Transcript retention
- Keep transcripts under
evals/transcripts/and never commit them. - Retain a transcript until its score sheet is signed off in the iteration review, then delete it.
- Never paste API keys, approval tokens, or private dataset paths into a transcript; scrub dataset IDs and absolute home paths before sharing.
